Our endocannabinoid system is extremely complex. And while CBD is the most potent cannabinoid to play a major role when it comes to the central nervous system and the immune system, other cannabinoids and terpenes potentially bring additional medicinal effects to the table.
When multiple phytocannabinoids and terpenes are present together, they act synergistically, increasing the overall wellness potential. Known as the “entourage effect,” this phenomenon is responsible for the popularity of full-spectrum CBD, which contains various phytocannabinoids and terpenes, and broad-spectrum CBD, which is full-spectrum with the THC removed.
Terpenes give hemp its smell, color and taste; they also have medicinal benefits, including an anti-inflammatory effect, improvement of memory and relief of stress and tension.
Yasmin Hurd, a neuroscientist at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, once said: “The brain is about a symphony, and CBD can bring the entire symphony into harmony.” It accomplishes this through the entourage effect.
